Wolin ’16

This August the first official expedition of Wici took place. We took part in the Festival of Slavs and Vikings organised by the Centre of Slavs and Vikings Wolin-Vineta-Jomsborg and hosted on the island of Wolin along Poland’s western Baltic coast. For years the event has attracted reenactors of the early Middle Ages from many countries. Our main reason for visiting was to see presentations about old handicrafts, and to learn more about them – especially sewing, weaving, embroidery and herbalism. The location was an open-air museum, and we left charmed by the beautiful Viking boats, reconstructed huts and fortifications.
